A scold of jays came one spring day
perched on an old fence, ready to play
a wandering band, a bit out of tune
I, their audience this hot afternoon
tell me Jay, what do you have to say
your calls, chasing my blues away
sing me a gritty rock n roll tune
a thunderous storm is coming soon
whisper me a song, please don't delay
the winds blow, trees begin to sway
lure my heart from it's safe cocoon
dance my way into days of June

author's note: I once had some bluejays
visit and they left me two blue feathers,
visit and they left me two blue feathers,
I still have them a calling card of sorts.
Thank you for visiting!
I love this song to the jays, and their song to you. Love the blue feather calling cards.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful birds but, they have an interesting call, they can mimic the sound of a hawk, that is clever. I had a mother and her babies come to my feeder. It was a surreal visit one day. I keep the bluejay feathers next to my hawk feather.
DeleteThis has a lovely, lyrical flow to it, Truedessa! Your blue jays are a lot different to the jays we have in the UK.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ingrid, around here the bluejay is noticeable. A striking bird. Once on my walk one was screeching in a tree nearby and then flew down on the road before me. He was def trying to tell me something. I looked around to see what if anything was nearby. Nothing just me and that Jay on that afternoon. It seems he had a message to relay. I took note.
DeleteThat was really funny! Very upbeat and catchy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex….I hope it brought a smile.

DeleteVery nicely done, Trudessa. They can make a racket! How nice to keep your found feathers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dwight! They can be a noisy bird for sure.
DeleteIs that what's know as a d-Jay request? (Apologies, terrrible pun). Love your song Truedessa.
ReplyDeleteHaha I always enjoy a bit of humor.
DeleteHa... love that comment by Marion... they would be truly magic to me, our Jays are much less colorful ( pink and blue actually)
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely, lyrical write!
ReplyDeleteI love the gift of two blue feathers.
