Morning Blinds

Free Turkey Pigeon Bird photo and picture

 The gray mist of dawn
holds back the light
awaiting the song of
the mourning doves
soothing coo-coo

slow, sleepily the dreamer
awakens in the stillness
of the softening fringes
between yawning moon
and winking sunlight

lifting the morning blinds
greeting the new day

Remembering

Free Dream Lucid illustration and picture

Does the morning remember
the gateway to the dreamscape
or does it disappear in the light
only to reappear under moonbeams

Does the dreamer remember dreams
pieces of magic in an imaginary realm
alive with vivid characters and settings
or does the escapist let them drift away

Does the snowy owl remember it's way
when transitioning between the worlds
ghost like it hovers over the tall pines
on starlight wings a celestial journey

Does a dragon remember it's mythical
does it enter the imagination full of fire
breathing adventure into the night air
awakening the dreamer to take flight

Does a story remember it's a story
or does it evolve into something more
transcending the boundaries of words
creating an epic saga of reality

Does the hourglass remember time
is slipping away with each grain
of sand along with our own mortality
in a world slowly disintegrating

Does love remember it's meaning
that it can shine in the darkness
fill hearts with joy and renewed hope
does it know the power of its existence

Elusive is Your Beauty

Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise / Michael Sammut

 Beautiful bird of paradise
sing to me of all your wonders
teach me the poems of nature
fly me to places of the heart

your golden crest bright as the sun
on colorful wings you ascend
elusive to the human world
fly me to places of the heart

deep in the rain-forest of dreams
leaving my collection of tears
a joyous song of love evolves
fly me to places of the heart

How Do We Become Good Creatures

Free Deer Forest photo and picture

How do we become good creatures
Is it in the small things we do during the day
We begin with compassion in our hearts
We feed the lonely goose that cannot fly
We plant trees creating balance on earth
We walk in nature respecting the sacred land
We commune with the wild birds, deer and squirrels

How do we become good creatures
Is it in the small things we do during the day
We begin with a bit of kindness in our souls
We smile at those that cross our daily path
We sing with a song of hope for the future
We listen with an ear of deeper understanding
We pray for those who have lost the will to pray

How do we become good creatures
Is it in the small things we do during the day
We begin with a peaceful meditative mind
We speak with soft words of encouragement
We sympathize with those who are grieving
We dream for a society of higher consciousness
We love with a heart of gratitude & forgiveness

Forgetfulness

Free Woman Sunflowers photo and picture

Will the society of the future be one of forgetfulness
Casting a net in hopes of catching pieces of truth
Believing in false prophets with promises of wealth
Who will sit and partake in the fish of great wisdom

Do we choose pieces of life we wish to remember
Do we bury love with the promise to never forget
Do we let the fire of life burn to smothering embers
Do we carry on with a heart full of sorrowful regret

Will the society of the future be one of forgetfulness
Embracing a modern world of artificial intelligence
Doubting our existence in some strange sci-fi plot
Who will sleep and partake in the dreams of life

Do we choose amnesia as an artwork of survival
Do we unearth remnants of ancient sentinels
Do we ignite flames of hope, a spiritual revival
Do we relinquish our hearts unintentional….

Will the society of the future be one of forgetfulness
Settling for a world on the cusp of extinction
Yearning for buffalo, salmon and seeds of thought
Who will lead us into the land of mindfulness …

Today's Sermon

Free Pocket Watch Time photo and picture

Today's sermon starts with dark rainy skies
barren trees and puddles at my feet

and a walk in a mystic fog with geese
honking, communing with the flock

and a lone goose who has been de-flocked
because she is unable to fly

Today's sermon is about a red-tailed hawk
carrying messages to the sky-world

it's about a small white spotted owl
reaching out in a dream the night before

it's about a snicker-doodle dog with
caramel eyes that warm the soul

Today's sermon is about grief and loss
that seems to fit the gospel of the day

it's about a friend who is always there
willing to share your sorrow and joy

it's about a broken hymn that needs
a new chorus to mend the heart

Today's sermon is drinking warm tea
and reading shapes in leaves

and writing poetry without preaching
leaving crumbs of your thoughts

and ends with prayers that tomorrow
the sermon will be filled with light

Despite and Still

Free Winter Snow photo and picture

Despite

Despite the dark December wind
and the shadowy tall barren trees
one can hear the groans of fragility
limbs ready to break in two…

Despite my grieving heart
and the emptiness that remains
one can hear the caws of the raven
wings fluttering in the darkness

Despite the cold winter chill
and the frozen days of yesterday
one can hear the cries of brokenness
hearts cracking from the weight of loss

Still

Still the light of December placid skies
and its promises of evergreen trees
one can hear the whispers of sturdiness
branches swaying in unison…

Still my soothing heart
and the memories that remain
one can hear the songs of cardinals
wings of red fluttering in the light

Still the warm winter sunshine
and the thawing days of tomorrow
one can hear the distant sighs of renewal
hearts healing from the lightness of hope

You Drew Stars

Free Rose Flower photo and picture

Once, you drew stars around my scars in dreams under a midnight sky.  In my place of refuge far from the waking world you were a conjurer of words. I a willing apprentice absorbed in a fable like story created by some heavenly script writer.  The stars were so bright that I had to close my eyes for fear that the clarity of a love story would end in some twisted plot.

Watching you swagger across the stage of another realm offering pieces of your heart in return I gave you pieces of mine.  You a troubadour of song and I a lady of poetic words.  We danced, affectionate lovers,  across the page, cheek to cheek whispering sonnets rhyming words and worlds.

Then, someone drew the curtain and we exited side stage.  You went your way and I went mine a wicked blue ending.
