The Arc of Poetry

courtesy of Pixabay

Poetry is an arc between
reality and the imagination
it is the language of the soul
speaking in unknown tongues

Poetry is found in the night
opening my mind to possibilities
soaring from realm to realm
in the silence I listen and hear
whispers of the ancient trees

Poetry is my greatest story
dreaming it, writing it, singing  it

Poetry is a falling star carrying
wishes across the infinite sky
leaving a trail of cosmic dust
in a wild messy world of love

Poetry is a song from my heart
discovering the rhymes of life
an internal beat weaving magic
deciphering and coining new words
a sonnet sung under blue moonlight

Poetry is my greatest story
dreaming it, writing it, singing it

Remembering

Free Dream Lucid illustration and picture

Does the morning remember
the gateway to the dreamscape
or does it disappear in the light
only to reappear under moonbeams

Does the dreamer remember dreams
pieces of magic in an imaginary realm
alive with vivid characters and settings
or does the escapist let them drift away

Does the snowy owl remember it's way
when transitioning between the worlds
ghost like it hovers over the tall pines
on starlight wings a celestial journey

Does a dragon remember it's mythical
does it enter the imagination full of fire
breathing adventure into the night air
awakening the dreamer to take flight

Does a story remember it's a story
or does it evolve into something more
transcending the boundaries of words
creating an epic saga of reality

Does the hourglass remember time
is slipping away with each grain
of sand along with our own mortality
in a world slowly disintegrating

Does love remember it's meaning
that it can shine in the darkness
fill hearts with joy and renewed hope
does it know the power of its existence

One Dance, One Chance

Tell me there’s time for that mystical dance
we’ll create magic under the moon and stars
our worlds meeting, while we have the chance
tell me there’s time for that mystical dance
we’ll write a lyrical ode to poetic romance
there will never be another story like ours
tell me there’s time for that mystical dance
we’ll create magic under the moon and stars

Writer's Digest 2024 April Pad Challenge Day 21

For today's prompt, write a trope poem. For most people, tropes are common plot devices used in certain genres. In romance, for example, the "different worlds"

Jousting Between Truth and Fiction

Truedessa's Collection

 I  joust  between the pages
of truth and fiction

I sing between the verses
of a troubadour's song

I write between the covers
of fantasy and desire

I dally between the chapters
of knights and dragons

I read between the lines
of mystical adventures

I dream between the settings
of imaginary places

I see between the eyes of
wisdom of sages & fools

I dance between the emotions
of love and heartbreak

I love between the poetry
of life's greatest stories

Once Upon A

photo - Pixabay

Once upon a dream
all was not as it seemed
tattered wings she wanted to fly
soaring high in a  sapphire sky

Once upon a star
she made a wish from afar
penning words from her heart
language of love,  work of art

Once upon a dragon
a story began to happen
navigator of the vast heavens
following illumination of sevens

Once upon a song
she found a place to belong
creating bridges between the worlds
in darkness mystical light unfurled

Once upon a love
she  danced in wispy clouds above
to the beat of  her poetic heart
teary eyed, her dreams fell apart

Standing in the Ruins

Our story etched in red sandstone
manifesting in times, unknown
pictographs of who and what we are
symbols of the sun, moon and stars

in ancient ruins we bare our souls
songs linger after the last drum-roll
listen and you will hear the rattles
feel the scars of our many battles

musicians, poets and dreamers
visionaries, we were believers
warriors of heart, mind and spirit
planting seeds for you to inherit

ancient dwellers, leaving sacred songs
here melodies of our hearts belong
will the beat survive modern times
mystical verses chanted in rhyme

may our journey never fade away
withstanding storms in rocks and clay
on wings of eagles and hawks we fly
catching the updraft soaring blue sky

leaving pieces of ourselves behind
mysteries unsolved, trails to find
stories have a beginning and end
the prologue is yet to be penned

will you bring honor to our quest?
remember the beginning and not forget
a picture is worth a thousand words to us
deciphering our words, in you we trust

A Dream Allegory

Photo by Lacie Slezak on Unsplash

Writing from the book of life he pens a tale
linking and inking imagery with words
leaving pieces of himself along the trail
setting the mood with tantalizing verbs

He enchants her in a dance of words
She enchants him in magical dreams

beneath a starry sky, she gently dreams
connecting with the universe and beyond
caught in a world of symbolism, it seems
storyteller and dreamer naturally bond

may his heart always hold a story
may hers always hold a dream...
together creating a dream-allegory

each on a journey, seeking paradise
their eyes take in the peripheral view
beneath golden moon, speechless in flight
he touches her inside in that place of blue

He enchants her in a dance of words
She enchants him in magical dreams

kindred souls breathing life into the night
airbrushing poetry across the sky
in an unknown tongue, verses they write
lost in the moment, dreams in their eyes

may his heart always hold a story
may hers always hold a dream...
together creating a dream-allegory
