Empty apartment filled with ghosts
she moved out in dark silence of night
he lived one flat up in an old brick stone
told her love was like riding a shiny bike
once you have learned you'll never forget
in her loneliness she climbed iron stairs
by the window he smiled with delight
captivated he taught her all he knew
perfecting pedal strokes, building cadence
she longed to ride on streets of dreams
until, one warm day outside her window
she saw him riding a bicycle built for two
smokey eyes she fled down the fire escape
she moved out in dark silence of night
knowing love was like riding a shiny bike
once you have learned you'll never forget

DeleteOnce you know
ReplyDeleteForever it will flow
It will always be there
Especially as at the other you stare
Riding a bike may be easier to at least do though
As few find such a love that make them glow
like riding a bike they say
Deleteenjoying each magical day...

ReplyDeleteThank you..take care as well..
DeleteOh such a story this is - just like real life........love the repetition of lines, and actions, and the hopeful knowing that now she has learned love, she will never forget and will find it again/........I'm home a day early, got sick. But had FOUR glorious beach walks with a black lab....pure heaven. I came away with a deep knowing that I will be back there soon, that the universe is arranging itself right now to assist me back there. Yay!
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry,
DeleteThanks for dropping over for a read...sorry to hear you were sick but, glad you had a glorious time on the beach. So happy for you my
friend.
The bicycle built for two came as a delightful surprise when I was reading. What a satisifying ending. :o)

DeleteOh I really like this one...I'm a hopeless romantic and this was a beautiful love story!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Katherine..
DeleteMaybe she should beware of men on bicycles built for two. I get the sense someone else is riding in her place. Lovely with a solid dose of sadness!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting..one has to watch those who sell bicycles..
DeleteLove is magical and free. This poem makes me think of riding a bike with the wind blowing through your hair and not a care in the world. It's magical and free too.
ReplyDeleteThank you MJ..nice to see you here..
DeleteGot to watch out for those "bike" peddlers, hopefully her love won't be wasted on someone like this again!
ReplyDeleteGinny,
DeleteThanks for reading and the comment..
