Cloudy skies offer little warmth
on a cold November day
flaming autumn colors
have faded away
a cardinal sings to her lover
whistling songs of possibilities
red wings begin to flutter
beneath a willow bough
joys of a November day

De is hosting, we are writing a quadrille of 44 words
incorporating a form of possible
author's note: I came upon
a pair of cardinals playing hide
and seek whistling possibilities
An beautiful little ode to November. :))
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteA joyful snapshot of a cold November day, Truedessa, with the added beauty of a cardinal! It’s such a shame we don’t get them in the UK.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite beautiful. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteThe do seem to play with each other.
ReplyDeleteCome on down here. Still plenty of color.
That they do Alex, I love listening to them. These two were playful. The female was whistling from the willow nearby.
DeleteA beautiful, melodic offering. I always struggle to get this in 44 words - well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ingrid. Sometimes, I struggle with the 44 words too. I usually have to edit it a bit.
DeleteHow lovely to hear their birdsongs in this cold November days. This lifted me up:
ReplyDeletewhistling songs of possibilities
It was really cold yet, these two birds were out whistling songs.
DeleteI lovey our NOvember ode. Here in my world, the cardinals stay all winter, their crimson coats bright flashes on snowy days!
ReplyDeleteThe cardinals are here year round as well. In the winter the contrast is stunning.
Delete"whistling songs of possibilities"
ReplyDeleteYES!
I love this. I miss seeing cardinals. I lived in Ohio for awhile as a young girl, and we saw them often. We don't have them here in Southern Nevada.
Thanks De, The cardinals and blue jays are here year round adding a bit of color to grey days.
DeleteNovember ~~ you presented it in a beautiful light.
ReplyDeleteThanks Helen, it does ease stress walking in nature and listening to bird-songs.
DeleteI love this and I love that it was inspired by cardinals at play:)
ReplyDeleteColor going bit by bit here. Fun how they play as Fall fades away.
ReplyDeleteI love the thought of those bright red cardinals in all the browns of November.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have some cardinals... no such brightness in November here.
ReplyDeleteI love hearing the birds in November. Beautiful poem!
ReplyDeleteYour poem invokes the best November has to offer! Lovely writing.
