November's Sorrow

It was not yesterday, I learned to know the love of bare November days before the coming of the snow. Sadly, it was last year when I felt the coldness of loss.

I sat on a wooden pew praying the chilliness would pass. But sadly, I knew his limbs would no longer walk amongst the living. The tears streamed down my face as I saw the text on my phone. “He’s gone”.  The words struck somewhere deep inside my soul.  A wound I knew would never heal.

Today, the first snow of the season arrived as the temperatures quickly dropped.  I looked outside my window in wonder.  A cardinal landed on the bush outside a messenger from the other side.  Gone in a flash of vibrant red against the white fresh snow.  I wept in the silence of the afternoon and the wound oozed.

November

Where has precious time gone
slipping away with each dawn
days filled with life's mixed songs
nights whispering of past wrongs

 searching for warm blue skies
sometimes, heaven cries
dreaming in autumn's cold rain
will I ever see you again

 reflective puddles at my feet
how can love be so bittersweet
no, love can't be washed away
even if the clouds remain gray

sing to me, sweet November rhyme
kiss my lips while, we still have time
tell me that our poetry will survive
as the winds of winter slowly arrive

I know not what tomorrow brings
but, for today, hope still clings

November's Song

Cloudy skies offer little warmth

on a cold November day

flaming autumn colors

have faded away

a cardinal sings to her lover

whistling songs of possibilities

red wings begin to flutter

beneath a willow bough

joys of a November day

De is hosting, we are writing a quadrille of 44 words
incorporating a form of possible

author's note:  I came upon
a pair of cardinals playing hide
and seek whistling possibilities
