December Magic

December Snow

Fresh snow
blankets the barren
 landscape, creating a path
to unknown wanderings
taking one step at a time

Cardinal

My heart heavy
as the fresh fallen snow
calling card of the season
red cardinal brightens the
mood of the day

Geese

Wild geese enjoying
the day, they worry not
about the chill in the air
basking in the noon sunlight
reflective in the moment

November

Where has precious time gone
slipping away with each dawn
days filled with life's mixed songs
nights whispering of past wrongs

 searching for warm blue skies
sometimes, heaven cries
dreaming in autumn's cold rain
will I ever see you again

 reflective puddles at my feet
how can love be so bittersweet
no, love can't be washed away
even if the clouds remain gray

sing to me, sweet November rhyme
kiss my lips while, we still have time
tell me that our poetry will survive
as the winds of winter slowly arrive

I know not what tomorrow brings
but, for today, hope still clings

Everyday Extreme

Stonehenge, Monument, England, Uk

The everyday extreme

seems to be getting worse

the weather teeters from

scorching to chilly

A storm rolls in with

howling winds

patio furniture lifts off

10,9,8,7......

feather light, I wonder when

it splashes-down, will it shatter, like

lost dreams in the garden

of Eden....

tears pour from the heavens

shall we build an arc to weather

the inevitable floods that will

surely come...

do we still have two of each

species, so many are bordering

on extinction....does anyone care

In the morning sun, the sweltering

heat arrives...no place to hide

the power grid is out...no

way  to cool the air down...makes

it hard to breathe when it's

90 plus degrees..

Who can keep track of the everyday

extremes...who will save the young

saplings who haven't had a chance

to grow their roots, taken too soon

my heart grieves for all the loss...

Will the only thing left standing be

giant megaliths ....a sanctuary of

hope in the eye of the storm

the artwork of

a by-gone community

Trees & Shattered Dreams

courtesy of Pixabay

I wonder if the trees perceive shattered dreams
hoping for growth, seeds were planted long ago
thirsty for a drink where are the flowing streams

roots digging deep, the weather has gone extreme
in a changing landscape, will we have a place to grow
I wonder if the trees perceive shattered dreams

the mighty axe of progress, makes the earth scream
today,  the ground is blanketed with white snow
thirsty for a drink, where are the flowing streams

who will lead us into the land of the redeemed
will the future be kind and ease our earthy woes
I wonder if the trees perceive shattered dreams

through barren limbs, dancing moonbeams
sign language of nature, is something I know
thirsty for a drink, where are the flowing streams

perhaps, tomorrow isn't as bad as it seems
somewhere, a poet is communing with Poe
I wonder if the trees perceive shattered dreams
thirsty for a drink, where are the flowing streams

Wilting in the Heat

Poets United Midweek Motif Weather

unknown source
 summer
sunflower fields
tilting toward the sky
thirsting for refreshing raindrops
wilting
~
sunshine
summer heat wave
sunflowers slowly wilt
wearily following sunlight
lifeless
~
raindrops
summer showers
cooling the heat of day
quenching dehydrated flowers
revived
