Clickety-clack goes a distance train
pondering where the rail tracks lead
anticipating the early morning rain
I want to pen a bluesy quatrain
soulful lyrics circulate in my head
clickety-clack goes a distance train
gray skies outside the window pane
drifting into a lucid dream in my bed
anticipating the early morning rain
concentrating on rhythmic refrains
there is much that needs to be said
clickety-clack goes a distance train
wishing I could see you once again
so many lines crossed and misread
anticipating the early morning rain
melancholy songs are hard to contain
how many tears must one shed
clickety-clack goes a distance train
anticipating the early morning rain

For today’s Poetics prompt, She'd like us to read the lyrics, listen to
the song, and write a poem about whatever it evokes for you
Bravo very interesting form, Truedessa
ReplyDelete🎇much love
Truedessa, you capture the blues of the train sounds so well.
ReplyDeleteI love the way the clickety clack of the train echoes through your poem, Truedessa. These lines made me smile:
ReplyDelete‘I want to pen a bluesy quatrain
soulful lyrics circulate in my head’
and
‘anticipating the early morning rain
concentrating on rhythmic refrains’.
You probably heard more than that song could ever express...
ReplyDeleteIt really shows the rhytmic aspect of the Villanelle and how well it workd with the train rollin' on.
ReplyDeleteI like how you blend the beautiful picture you paint into a dreamlike quality.
ReplyDeleteYou've written in the form so very well. I'm reminded, having recently ridden on the train roundtrip from Boston to New York City and back again...of the lulling rhythm that the swaying of the train can make....the newer trains don't really have the clickety-clack which, in my opinion, is sad. I do love riding the train...take it to visit my daughter as there is an excellent commuter rail from Boston. Also, we've not owned a car since 1997 so use public transportation all the time.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done, Truedessa! Great use of images and metaphors.
ReplyDeleteNice and bluesy!
ReplyDelete'Clickety-clack goes the distant train." Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI love your refrain in this!
