Respect the buffalo way of learning
bring awareness into your sphere
who is in need in the journey
Share what gifts you have available
food, clothing, a message of hope
Perhaps, a song on a buffalo drum
can you hear the ancestors chanting
take only what you need…
Remain connected to the earth
with strength you can weather
life’s storms with grace
Walk in the spirit of gratitude
practice the art of humility that
the universe will provide
Unity is key to survival in
an ever changing world....

I am deeply connected to the buffalo spirit. I play a Native American hoop drum made of buffalo hide it has a strong voice that needs to be heard. I wrote this in respect of my drum and all it represents in my journey.
Peace and love....
This prompt fell into your lap, Truedessa! I had never heard a Native American hoop drum, so I looked up a video of one being played. I agree that it has a strong voice. I love how the drum resonated throughout your poem, with its message of gratitude and sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kim, this one really spoke to me. There are some great videos of drumming.
DeleteOh yes... this is what we lacking.... when we is set against them, and I is more important than you we are astray.
ReplyDeleteYes, we could learn a lot from the Grandfathers.
DeleteIf only humanity could conquer ego. The way things are going the prospect seems unreachable. But we'll keep working - on ourselves.
ReplyDeleteHa Ego is the biggest obstacle in today's world. Perhaps, it starts one person at a time.
DeleteI love this - your punchy lines act like a heartbeat, consistent, steady, and life-giving. It reads like a chant that could be spoken around a fire fire 🙌💕
ReplyDeleteThank you Ange. It could indeed be a chant with some drumming to assist.
DeleteThis was great, the rhythm carries it the whole way.

ReplyDeleteThank you Cara - the sound is beautiful as one imagines all those buffalo roaming free on the plains.
DeleteMy new favourite of your poems - the buffalo, the ancestors, "take only what you need", the gifting, the drum, the song.........Loved it!
ReplyDeleteThank you my friend. I am honored you found it to be a new favorite.
DeleteThis moved me to tears, as it brought back memories of powwows, drums, native songs, regalia, dancing....and the importance of this teaching.
ReplyDeleteYour poetic voice honoured the voice of your drum. So beautiful.
Thank you Mish for the prompt. We need to remember these teachings. I love playing my drum and attending drum circles when I can.
DeleteIt's a travesty what Europeans did to the buffalo in North America. Now we want to claim their wisdoms for ourselves.

Now we have to teach everyone who does not realize this.
I've never heard a hoop drum played, True, but I like the way you describe its strength reverberating with the earth, a strong connection of force and harmony. Beautiful writing.
