Truedessa Chats With Patrick Hatt - Imagine that!

Today, I am doing something new.  I have decided to incorporate some book reviews on my blogs.  I recently finished reading Murder Has A Price by Patrick Hatt a/k/a Pat Hatt. He is an  author of over 100 children books and novels.

So, let's get started with my first review and then Pat has kindly agreed to a short interview to amuse his fans.

Murder Has A Price had me hooked in the first few pages. It is fast paced and draws the reader in pronto. Detective Hollerin is on a mission that seems impossible. His sole goal is to solve the Torrie and Kurt Price murders.  His ally in this quest is Mr. Dunker who was the butler for the Price family. He believes without a doubt that Mr. Price was innocent, unfortunately, the law has their own theories on the case.

You will meet some quirky characters along the way that seem to work well together. Get ready for a wild roller coaster ride filled with a couple of twists and some high packed confrontations. In this who done it mystery, one wonders who will come out alive if anyone and at what cost?

This book is a bit outside Pat's usual genre of adventures. This crime thriller is a must read for Pat Hatt fans.  Just keep in mind there is some violence. You can find his book at Amazon. here

Now with no further delays - Truedessa chats with Patrick Hatt - Imagine That!

Can you tell us how the idea for this book evolved?  Do you ever  dream about a story and then wake up and roll with it or do you like to let an idea simmer in your head for a bit?

The idea popped in one day and then I went with it. I had to flesh it out a bit more with some of the other characters but Hollerin and the main story itself I knew from the get go. Always do. If I don’t know the exact ending, I don’t start. Don’t want to end up like a certain show and have no idea on the ending and then make up something stupid when I get there.

I’ve dreamt about at least 10 I’ve got written down to do on my ever growing list. As I’m writing sequences and stuff like that I may dream about them from time to time too. When my brain gets the idea I just roll with it. Unless I have five on the go already or something. Then it will have to simmer while my OCD makes me finish the ones I already started.

I am a bit intrigued by the characters .  Can you tell us a bit about the development of your characters and which one did you find the most fun?

The main character(s) I always have before I start. But many just kind of work their way in. There have been so many who were throw away characters in my books that just stuck out and had a story to tell, so I let it be told. I may know where the beginning and end ends up but the middle is usually dictated by what wants to be told and where the characters want to go. In this one Hollerin was fun to write as he just didn’t give a crap any longer. Usually it’s the comic relief or smart arse characters that are the most fun though.

The story is fast paced and I wonder how long did it take for you to complete this adventure?  You are usually at least 6 months ahead on your  blog posts.

Only took me about 20 days to write the first draft. Plus I edit as I go so that helps with further drafts. Then I just edit away some more and some more and some more. This one was done August of 2015 haha So it has been sitting there awhile. I’ve got 4 more done in various stages of editing too.  At least one more for release this year I think. As for blog posts, I’m at 360 ahead now. The cat never shuts up. Or he has no life. Either works.

I noticed you left the door ajar.  Will there be a follow up?

I purposely left the door ajar and the journal has a bigger role to play should the sequel come due. But with Max Blizzard series and A Not So ___ World series on the go, not sure I want to start another one until those two are finished. Plus, it is nice to just write stand alone books and not have to sequelize everything. But we shall see. That stupid list of ideas keeps growing though and putting a cramp in any sequels.

What one word would describe your writing style? ( besides in rhyme)

Probably go go go. One word times three. Is that okay by thee? Hey, you mentioned rhyme. Had to do it one time.

I see no mention of the cat in the book, perhaps he was napping.

The cat must have been off napping or hawking up a hairball. He’s getting too big of an ego anyway. After putting him in another series and giving him super powers, I think he’s been serviced enough.

The cover is great for a murder mystery.  Did you design it yourself?

I came up with the idea for the design and then I got an artist to bring it to life and bring it to life he did.

What would you like to say to your readers about your murder mystery?
I would tell them to "buy your book."

Buy my book sounds like a plan. But in my next novel I kind of work that angle a bit, so we don’t want to do a repeat or a reboot of that. A certain blogger may have a fit. As for what I can say is I hope it is enjoyed and at least one of the twists is a surprise.
Thanks for the chat, you may get an evil look from the cat. Talking to Pat and not his rhyming umm butt. I’m sure he’ll get over it though at our hut.

After the initial rounds of questions I just had one more to ask as inquiring minds want to know.

Tell us what does Pat Hatt do in his free time besides write?

Pat bows to the demands of the cat. Would that really mean I ever have
free time though? Hmmm. Other than that, work out, watch movies/TV, take
the mutts for a walk, play cards and just enjoy life as it comes.

Thank you Pat for joining me for a bit of fun!  Now for those of you who want to read something a bit different by this prolific writer  - This might be the one to read!  Who doesn't enjoy a good murder mystery?

Pat can be found at It's Rhyme Time  here  where he leaves a new post every day! A note of warning be careful what you say as he may take it and use it at his bay.  He often incorporates his followers in his posts and I have to say it is often  hilarious. Added points if you are lucky enough to get to be his #1 comment of the day.

Smashing Pumpkins, Spilling Seeds

On Halloween eve,  mystical full moon
two lighted hearted fools, a sea of dark
sailors listen for the siren's musical tune
journey into the unknown they embark

clouds roll in thin veil immortal realm
Truedessa at the bow,  keeping watch
ghostly tales of those sinking at the helm
Captain Pat,  "I could use a shot of scotch"

eerie silence cuts through the moonlight
bubbling  cauldron,  bewitching spell
above the black ravens caw in the night
opening doorways to where spirits dwell

ghosts awakening, pirating ships to sail
hovering above a witch on her  broom
serpents rattling,  the night grows pale
riding black waters,  waves  of gloom

these two just wanted to have some fun
flashing the bat signal high in the sky
they needed to call in their top guns
they would make any evil ghouls fry

first to arrive the mighty red tailed hawk
seeking adventure always ready for a tale
he is known for sporting a giant mohawk
a keen eye tending bar, filling mugs with ale

welcome to the party on Halloween eve
arriving now, on dragon's fiery  breath
none other than the masked ninja wannabe
he's been known to slay a guitar to death

special guest appearance by the blue guy
offering to sing on deck "The monster mash"
impersonating  Elvis wearing a black tie
Truedessa's sure it will be graveyard smash

Now, the cat is mystified at the new crew
but, Captain Pat is gleaming with delight
another ship in view, who would've knew
Captain Red Shoe's banner sails in the night

Glenn couldn't stay away, he likes these tales
he's sharp always knows when to enter on cue
no horse in sight so he rode on a giant whale
he enjoys a long story,  writing a script or two

Mary,  Claudia & Sherry in a hot air balloon
they like  to float freely in a basket in the sky
taking in the rare view under a blood moon
it is said they are willing to fight bad guys

shh - off in the distance a wolf howls
or was that just Mary's 3 dogs..

two light hearted fools are enjoying the bash
Captain Pat & Truedessa dance to a sultry tune
suddenly a giant pumpkin hits the deck smash
guests scatter yelling "who is that crazy loon"

riding the steely sky a hobgoblin causes fright
looks like the party is about to take a turn
throwing fiery pumpkins from left to right
stumbling to their feet as the water churns

load the cannon this goblin we will defeat
Truedessa and Captain Pat come up with a plan
Ninja Wannabe calls his dragon to his feet
the trio board, off to fight this pumpkin man

with a swift SWoosh and whooSH off they fly
slashing darkness, with lightning speed
fiery orange pumpkins illuminate the  sky
afraid ground support they will surely need

Brian bellowing "all hands on deck"
reloading the cannon, putting out fires
they will not let this mighty ship wreck
Claudia quietly sketches all that transpires

Captain Red Shoes  now takes command
"listen up we don't go down without a fight"
together with the blue guy they make a stand
storm of flaming arrows blasts into the night

Truedessa  sends heart thumping vibrations
Ninja  slowly inches closer, with a thump
thick  air ripples with a wobbly sensation
on the back of hobgoblin Captain Pat jumps

wrestling this pumpkin goon in the sky
Zipping and hissing
  bones snapping and cracking
Truedessa, hurls a magic stone high

a gash of light from the heavens above
striking the goblin bursting his evil seeds
falling ,Captain Pat gives him a final shove
Truedessa tosses Capt'n Pat some magical beads

he grabs hold as the dragon leads them home
safe and sound back upon their sturdy ship
the wicked hobgoblin will no longer roam
the guests below clap with glee what a trip

Time to celebrate until the morning sun
Ninja rockin' out on his guitar all sing along
untied the friends defeated evil and won
Truedessa & Capt'n  Pat together are strong

Now, this is a  Halloween party cruise
Bjorn, you lead as you dance with bears
everyone put on your red dancing shoes
let the laughter of friends fill the air

Slipping into the Land of Nod

Robin Hood Wiki Media Commons

In another realm live two light hearted fools
traveling  an  endless sea of wandering dreams
now, these two set sail in search of rare jewels
along with a rhyming cat they make quite a team

late at night side by side gazing the infinite sky
reading from a book The Ballads of Robin Hood
watching shooting stars,  Truedessa softly  sighs
dreaming of  faraway places blue magical woods

twinkling of an eye slipping into the land of nod
waking to find themselves in a forest  of  green
captain carrying a quiver & bow, lightning rods
Truedessa,  grinning new land picturesque scene

thunderous sound approaching galloping hooves
rowdy cheers of bravery echo,  distant  breeze
Truedessa  yielding a sword,  be  ready to move
Captain Pat  bow in hand, standing  with ease

now, that  spotted cat he went on the prowl
through shadowy trees , looking  to explore
swooSH, from above, hoot of a white owl
oh no,  trio discovered, as merriment roared

WHO travels Sherwood Forest  friend or foe
step out from the shadows, show your face
Captain Pat declares " who wants to know"
WE travel with Robin Hood, this is our place

stealing  from the rich to help feed the poor
we are outlaws, balancing the king's scale
pulling our bows until our fingers are sore
no money for taxes,  peasants thrown in jail

sun rapidly sets forest appears a bit ominous
lurking images glaring black eyes of night
battle will be fought, some arrows poisonous
Captain Pat declares " tis a battle we will fight"

Truedessa  senses footsteps drawing near
SSHH,
      SShh
          sshh

forest men quickly blend with thick  trees
adrenaline rushing,  well-founded fear
quickening breath tremors of unease

suddenly,  an arrow flies through the night
TWISH, TWANG, WOOSH, THUNK
our allegiance to Robin Hood we fight
metal against metal deafening sharp clang

Truedessa  an expert at sword play
swiftly  swings her blade left to right
Captain slinging arrows get out of his way
fighting against Nottingham,  finest knights

crazy spotted cat clawing away with glee
men disappearing into an iron grey haze
green hooded man, fighting a band of  three
Captain quickly to the rescue his eyes ablaze

CRASH, bang..CLANK, clink...

lunging forward sudden attack on Pat
Truedessa's  sword delivers a blunt blow
knocking the attacker down with a splat
hiding behind high clouds moonlight glows

ringing through lush forest, last swords clang
Captain Pat smiles milady " I owe you for that"
round of three cheers from Robin Hood's gang
hurriedly, gathering riches left behind, filling hats

Robin Hood raises his battle sword, "justice for all"
men chanting loyal praises, long live Robin Hood
Captain Pat & Truedessa  together standing tall
justice for all is something that they understood

twinkling of an eye, slipping out of the land of nod
two lighthearted fools slowly stir under starlight
groggy, in thought they compose their own ballads
to the berth below they go until morning sunlight

tucked within the pages on deck a medieval coin
treasure found on the  path where two roads join..

Posted for dVerse..Another lighthearted adventure
Captain Pat always a pleasure to sail the sea with thee..

Roaming the Dark Side

Dreams fill two light hearted fools heads
navigating between heaven & earth
our stories woven, golden threads
adventures waiting, tales giving birth

Celestial body, silver stars  dance
wooing hearts, romance in the air
casting spells, Truedessa in a trance
constellations twinkling,  solar flares

Blanket of darkness, no place to hide
mystic powers, soft ballad distance cry
glistening moonbeams, ready to ride
Aquila lights the misty evening sky

Pewter wings soaring night hawk
Truedessa caught in a giant claw
Captain Pat's smile melts to a frown
drawing his sword, clenching jaw

Calling upon the powers, crystal skull
shooting stars, fiery arrows in flight
soft sighs, drifting in a momentary lull
declaring an oath,  we fight this night

Hawk clever disguise landing on the moon
cosmic dust gleaming in his dark eyes
mystical powers, playing bizarre tunes
Captain Pat hears her haunting cries

Cat hisses summoning  ancient powers
heaven roaring - mighty lion arises
diamond collar - sudden meteor showers
mythical realm alive..full of surprises

Captain & cat riding the mighty beast
off to the moon,  facing that martian loon
stealing Truedessa, this madness must cease
soon this creature will be singing a new tune

Roaming the dark side avoiding craters
Leo the Lion stalking vast stars
seeking that little green traitor
sending  his probing ways back to mars

Captain & cat fighting this evil creature
flinging moon rocks, from here to there
wild scene for an alien movie feature
out of nowhere a fire ball from the air

Truedessa calling upon the universe
powers of the sun, align with the moon
she softly sings in harmony poetic verse
casting a magical spell,  martian swoons

Encapsulating the alien in his spacecraft
navigation set,  flying him into a black hole
Truedessa smiling with glee, Captain laughs
cat  hissing lets flee,  it's time for us to roll...

Sliding down yellow moonbeams waiting ship
safe once again, exhausted they sleep
in the sunrise they will continue their trip
seeking the bora bora shores in waters deep

as the moon and sun continues to shine
