does it transform into grief
my heart longs to know
why does it no longer grow
drifting away like a dying leaf

should we ask the crows
love is a mysterious thief

gone in the afterglow
in the sadness of disbelief

sipping a glass of Merlot
why is its song brief

does it sleep in a meadow
will dreams bring relief

Form Villanelle
I enjoyed the ending stanza lines alternating repetition and song like words! I also personally enjoy any poem that mentions crows, this is a well crafted and perfect articulation of todays prompt, Truedessa!

Poignant and beautiful, True. "Drifting away like a drying leaf." But I have to believe, love still lives on somehow, in our hearts.
