Seasons Change

Summer prepares to wave goodbye
fall approaches with crisp cool air
seeing a praying mantis is rare
overhead the great blue heron flies

In poetic beauty the willow cries
her long thin boughs seem to flare
fall approaches with colorful fanfare
summer prepares to wave goodbye

The falling leaves are colored died
cheery songbirds have flown elsewhere
two mourning doves cooing a prayer
overhead the great blue heron flies

Summer prepares to wave goodbye
intricate spiderwebs are now threadbare
overhead the great blue heron flies

Summer waves goodbye
sunlight hugs tightly
qulls squawk overhead
tide rolls in and out
castles wash away
imprints of the day

Autumn waves hello
cooler breeze arrives
geese honk noisily
leaves changing color
flowers vanishing
falls lofty sing song

Summer's Fading Songs

courtesy of wikipedia

The heat of summer still flushes my cheeks on my daily walk but, there is a subtle change in scenery. The trees now are a paler shade of green and some have yellow and orange tints.  Red-Winged blackbirds no longer perform their musical trill.  Robins seem scarce as their song becomes a distant memory of longer days.  Geese come and go as they gather for their next journey.  I listen for the soft whispers of summer's magic but, I feel them fading with the evening breeze. Fall is approaching on tippy-toes as to not disturb the remaining days of the warm season of lazy day-dreaming hammock afternoons.

In my heart,  I know the harvest season is approaching.

Summer Pops With Thoughts of You

Free Dragon-Fly Blue photo and picture

On a summer day
under skies of blue
surrounded by mountains
in green hues
drifting on the river
of mystical dreams

immersing myself
in the serenity of nature
a dragonfly lands on my hand
a small creature
thoughts of you pop
into my head

Summer State of Mind

Courtesy of Pixabay

I’m in a summer state of mind
dreaming under the heavenly stars
somewhere out there loves undefined
traveling the galaxy, no matter how far
connecting our souls looking for a sign
a portal, a mysterious door left ajar
where two hearts are forever entwined

Let's drift out into the cosmic sea
dive into the depth of our hearts
drink from the cup of life, feeling free

I’m in a summer state of mind
lets embark on a journey you and I
hope the weather will treat us kind
offering days filled with sunburst skies
there’s a key out there, we must find
unlocking passageways, soaring high
moving forward, leaving imprints behind

Let's drift out into the cosmic sea
dive into the depth of our hearts
drink from the cup of life, feeling free

I’m in a summer state of mind
viewing life through a poetic eye
let’s explore, see what we can find
now, is the moment for you and I
harmonious our songs will align
navigating our way, tell me you’ll try
the meaning of love,  I need to define

Let's drift out into the cosmic sea
dive into the depth of our hearts
drink from the cup of life, feeling free

Summer leaves in Autumn's Riff

It seems as though you are still summer
but, the songs of the trees have changed
summer leaves in autumn's riff
pulling at my heartstrings
falls leaves me singing
familiar tunes
crimson red
thoughts of
you

Select ONE of these 9 syllable lines as your opener (or more if you wish to write several nonets)

author's note:  Seeing this photo made me think
of all the cancelled summer concerts.
The good news,  we still have music in many forms.
