Summer's Fading Songs

courtesy of wikipedia

The heat of summer still flushes my cheeks on my daily walk but, there is a subtle change in scenery. The trees now are a paler shade of green and some have yellow and orange tints.  Red-Winged blackbirds no longer perform their musical trill.  Robins seem scarce as their song becomes a distant memory of longer days.  Geese come and go as they gather for their next journey.  I listen for the soft whispers of summer's magic but, I feel them fading with the evening breeze. Fall is approaching on tippy-toes as to not disturb the remaining days of the warm season of lazy day-dreaming hammock afternoons.

In my heart,  I know the harvest season is approaching.

summer's magic dusk
green heron small and stocky
chestnuts fall softly

The Way of Birds

multicolored bird flying during daytime
courtesy unsplashed Karl Anderson

I am amazed at the beauty of birds
mystical in their ability to fly
colorful feathers and wings that curve
I am amazed at the beauty of birds
captivating songs sung with no words
glorious heights in a turquoise sky
I am amazed at the beauty of birds
mystical in their ability to fly

The Language of Birds

Courtesy of The Sunday Muse

I will sing the language of birds
setting free the songs within me
composing ballads, stringing words
I will sing the language of birds
searching in the garden for verbs
perching high in a flowering tree
I will sing the language of birds
setting free the songs within me

Shadow Prey

The Sunday Muse

Darkness sweeps across the sky

shadows of you and I  creep past

in this lonely room of heartbreak

sharp talons wait, a  bird of prey

in the corner shapes take form

hints of imagination begin to stir

in this altered reality,  breathing

shallow caws, a blackbird's song

wandering the internal labyrinth

in the distance a black moon rises

drifting into a  conscious slumber

surrealism appears beyond the veil

there under a massive bonsai tree

an oracle of insight with long graying hair

wisdom interwoven in his braided beard

ushering me to sit across from him

pouring a warm cup of ancient tea

bowing my head , sipping its flavor

his eyes green emeralds of the sea

touching my heart of indigo blue

a soft flutter of mending wings

cupped within my  hands of hope

light filters through the dark void

opening my palms, taking flight

freeing the captive within

Author's note:  I have had a rough week and part of this poem
is from a dream encounter.  Wishing you peace & health
Thank you for your visit.

Solemn Gray

Turdus-migratorius-002.jpg

Early morning sky is a solemn gray
spring is aching to come into full bloom
red robins sit on the peeling porch rail

children no longer go outside to play
when will a sense of normalcy resume
early morning sky is a solemn gray

blue jays sing hymns of enchanted tales
flowers will soon fill the air with perfume
red robins sit on the peeling porch rail

Oh sweet sunlight break this moody day
with nature let our hearts beat in tune
early morning sky is a solemn gray

walls these days are hard to scale
in your heart give love some room
red robins sit on the peeling porch rail

from lips of hope, people begin to pray
who can break us from our own tomb
early morning sky is a solemn gray
red robins sit on the peeling porch rail

author's note:  Today, I woke up to
the songs of two robins on my
porch rail.  Their songs are hymns
of hope in trying times.

love, hope and health....

Oracle of Wisdom Hoots

pic credit - my own
High upon a mountaintop
nestled in fragrant pines
hidden mystical owl's nest

beyond the veil of full moon
an oracle of wisdom hoots
bring me your hopes & dreams

open your heart, feel the magic
discover the mystery of night
walk  upon  green mossy trails

inside an old gemstone mine
spirited dragon bird slumbers
unfurl your  mighty wings, arise

perched high the owl chortles
awakening the sleeping beast
drums echo through the cavern

into the fire release your wishes
forest nymph dances with delight
captivated by the dragon's song

unleashing primordial power
guardian of the celestial world
healing crevices of the heart

spring's breath, hatching love
from the yolk of lofty dreams
soaring on wide wings...

Hearts Jumping on Garden Trampoline

lady with the birds

under hot pink & red flowering trees
in a meadow of fresh spearmint green
bright yellow sun, gentle spring breeze
hearts jumping on garden trampolines

little bird reciting, poetry lyrical song
beautiful peacock, hues of green & blue
new life in bloom, nature plays along
listening with love to her spiritual muse

dancing with splendor, birds flying high
peacock waits to fan his brilliant feathers
capturing all the shades in an endless sky
free spirited a wild bird cannot be tethered

spring offers an array of special pleasure
filled with vibrant colors, priceless treasure

Hawk Eye View

Oh, how I wish I could fly
on the open wings of a hawk
so,  wild and free..
soaring
 soaring

performing acrobatics in a blue sky
flurry of feathers dancing in the air
weightless, freedom in flight
swooping
 swooping

rising to a higher level of perspective
energy awakening in the sunlight
visions of life, spiritual elevation
circling
 circling

a distant cry, awareness
aura of power, panoramic view
gliding in graceful balance
flying
 flying

Posted for Poets United I saw a hawk today and I marveled at the sight..
