Storms

I was born during the year’s biggest snowstorm
my mother said it was a miracle, I survived
weighing in at 5lbs, I fought to stay warm

Made love for the first time during a thunderstorm
in a loft under a skylight, flashes of lightning
learning the art of poetry in free form

I wanna know what love is…
I want you to show me…

Sometimes all I feel is the rain
Searching for life’s gentle refrain

I sailed on a boat of dreams during windstorms
navigating my way through treacherous waters
in the darkest moment, seeking a piece of norm

Made love with words during a poetic storm
you and I were doomed, a beautiful disaster
love has the power to overcome and transform

Have we forgotten what love is
I want you to tell me…

Sometimes all I feel is the rain
Searching for life’s gentle refrain

Author's note:  I was inspired reading a poem yesterday by Brendan
so this is a wip....working through it...

This is What I know

 Free expression emotion motivation illustration

It’s Wednesday,  and this is what I know
it’s cold and the ground covered with snow
lake mostly frozen, remains open in spots
there are two mallards with a goose mascot
my heart feels heavy hoping they survive
praying warm weather will soon arrive

It’s Wednesday,  and this is what I know
perched high on a branch caws a black crow
darkness set in like a poem written by Poe
and I wonder where the wild wind blows
tired of all this grayness and nasty weather
I day-dream  of spring flowers and heather

It’s Wednesday, and this is what I know
I hear the songs of the weeping willow
broken dreams, can whiskey warm the heart
who will pick us up, when life falls apart
surely the universe has a grand plan
the phoenix has an amazing wingspan

It’s Wednesday, and this is what I know
some days you just have to go with the flow

A Goose Contemplates

Today, wandering in a snowy vista
a lone goose contemplates fate
broken wing, she is shore bound
pondering words, do they hold weight

Today, wandering in a snowy vista
unfazed she stands on solid ground
searching for words on the canvas of day
listening to the trees creaking sound

Today, wandering in a snowy vista
there is a poem in view with no words
ruffling of feathers in the noon sunshine
finding poetry in the majestic beauty of a bird

Songs of my Youth

Free Birds Branch vector and picture

The music of my youth
it may be aging but, it's never dead
it's constantly playing in my head
filled with emotions and hidden truth

The music of my youth
traveling with me through time
sacred melodies, internal rhymes
searching my soul, becoming a sleuth

songs of hope for better days, days, days
will we ever find our way..way...way

The music of my youth
comforting me while singing the blues
or whenever, I am thinking of you
some memories you just can't dilute

The music of my youth
filled with riffs and weeping guitars
dreaming of a one-of-a kind star
listening to a piano or far away flute...

songs of hope for better days, days, days
will we ever find our way..way...way

New Moon

The moon is playing
hide and seek tonight
but, I am not in the mood
why must you tease my heart

        in the darkness, searching
        for luminous light

depending on my third eye
opening doors of perception

stumbling, into a lucid dream
without you

So for the challenge I want you to:

  1. Select a title of one word containing not more than 3 vowels and 4 consonants.
  2. Try to find as many words that are using only the letter in the title
  3. Combine this into a poem of your own
  4. Do not use any punctuation in the poem

This was fun since it is a poetry prompt, I decided on Poetic as my title.

My Favorite Earth Shoes

Free Goose Nyárilúd photo and picture

I slip my feet into my soft moccasins
they are my favorite earth shoes
made of soft deer hide with fringe and
colored plastic beads
attached to sturdy soles

Zipping my moccasins,  I venture outside
what wonders will greet me on this
sunny cold day…

I look for the herons that resided here
since spring, unfortunately, they are nowhere
in sight…perhaps, they have finally gone to
warmer shores, I will miss them

A large flock of geese are gathering
I think, they too, will soon migrate south
but, for today they seem happy just splashing
in the lake, some are sleeping facing the sun

I feel a chill, the wind blows, my feet
crunching the fallen leaves…. the trees
appear thin with bare limbs.  Once unseen
abandoned nests, a reminder of spring’s song

The honk, honk, honk of the geese echoes across
the lake with a dog picking up the beat…
gruff, gruff, ruff, ruff…

Coming around the wooded bend, I sense something
in between the trees, there is movement
suddenly,  I see her, a deer with big dark eyes nibbling
on some bushes…. I smile…we walk quietly hoof to shoe
shoe to hoof, sole to soul…united in the moment

beauty is found
