I fell for your honey coated words
the temptation too great to resist
sweet and delicious I craved more
drinking in the nectar of your songs
organic in nature, nothing artificial
caught in the stickiness of our world
discovering life isn't always sunny
now, I feel the sting of lost dreams

Short but powerful!
ReplyDeleteHmm....honeyed words are hared to resist. Like this one.
ReplyDeleteForget me not! I hope the memory can fade so the sting too fades. Oh those honeyed words--sigh.
ReplyDeleteHoney and sting are sadly inseparable sometimes. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteOuch.
ReplyDeleteI think that many of us have drowned in those honeyed words. I know I have.
Beautifully written - and thank you.
I wish more things would be organic these days...
ReplyDeleteThis is so familiar and well expressed in the lines:
ReplyDelete‘caught in the stickiness of our world
discovering life isn't always sunny
now, I feel the sting of lost dreams.'
The old, old story....
ReplyDeletePotent.
ReplyDeleteSure have to watch that sting, as it can come at any time.
ReplyDeleteNothing stings like a lost dream. Great clincher!
ReplyDeleteLove and loss so exquisitely conveyed
ReplyDeleteSuch power in the brevity of your verse!❤️
ReplyDeleteHi Truedessa - just lovely ... we tick along enjoying the sweetness of life, but somewhere there's a sting to bring us back to earth. Loved it - cheers Hilary

Most times it is a painful realization after the fact!

This is very sad. Sometimes those honey-coated words do not hold true in the long run.
ReplyDeleteBeware of honey-coated words. Very powerful poem, Trudessa!
ReplyDeleteThe sting of lost dreams......brings pain. Yet we would not have wanted to miss the sweet times we once knew. I love the title!
ReplyDelete...life's lessons - we all experience and hopefully learn along the way.
ReplyDeleteBut, we have to keep going and heal from those experiences! Great poem! Big Hugs!
