In my deepest January
nature is my sanctuary
beauty in the snow covered land
solitary goose makes her stand
winter's weight is hard to carry
in my deepest January
frozen reflections dancing trees
songbirds lingering singing free
feeling the wrath of bitter squalls
my mighty fortress with no walls
in my deepest January
thawing hearts in February
starry heavens and dreamy nights
praying for longer days of light
nature is my sanctuary
in my deepest January

I so resonate with your words, True. What is keeping me aloft these days is the beauty of the natural world - the innocence of it, carrying on midst human assault. I love the lines about Lucy the Goose making her stand, surviving through the brutal chill of winter. May spring come and make life easier for her. Nature is my sanctuary too. May she survive and overcome what humans have done to her.
ReplyDeleteSherry, I agree I feel nature is restorative and I enjoy my daily walks. Lucy is a role model for humans as she is resilient.
Delete"winter's weight is hard to carry" and the cold and the dark--and yet it is so beautiful! I like the repetition of "nature is my sanctuary."
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan! Winter can be a heavy burden with the cold and dark days that seem to linger on.
DeleteI love the pleasant and restful feelings that the lines give us as set against "winter's weight is hard to carry". "nature is my sanctuary" So true.
ReplyDeleteAh, nature is my sanctuary...and a beautiful one it is!
DeleteI like the rhyming couplets, Truedessa, and the stark beauty in the imagery. I love that ‘solitary goose’ making her stand, the ‘frozen reflections’ and the thought of ‘thawing hearts in February’ – only one more day to go!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim, I always enjoy reading your thought filled comments.
DeleteAh yes, nature is a sanctuary that is always there for us when we need it and, even in these deep Januarys, is a wonderful escape from the 'wrath of bitter squalls.'
ReplyDeleteMary, It is indeed a form of escape from the daily happenings in the world. I just open the door, put on my winter garb and head outside to breathe in a bit of solace.
