Woven Tapestry of Dreams - A Sestina

The sun took by heart the ocean my soul
but, to you,  I freely gave the gift of love
we shared poetry, made love with words
we danced somewhere beyond the clouds
I heard the songs that you sang just for me
I fell in love with a once in a lifetime dream

The road to happiness begins with a dream
in a parallel world we touched soul to soul
mysteries of night,  enchantment found me
through the darkness shone a star of love
visions became clear with passing clouds
how can I express, what I feel with words

In our world we penned beautiful words
we slept in the woven  tapestry of dreams
moonlight gleamed between fading clouds
in distance waves  drifted pieces of my soul
searching for the truest meaning of love
time and space seemed non-existence to me

In our parallel world was a place for you and me
poetic verses from our lips, formulating words
tuning into the continuous frequency of love
pursuing greater connections in shared dreams
opening the gateways to the desires of the soul
touching heart to heart,  high above the clouds

Behold skies of blue, behind misty clouds
take my hand my dearest love and follow me
let us share the cloaked mysteries of our souls
seduce me once again with magical words
free falling into the land of mystical dreams
hear our heart beat, to the melody of love

Exploring  the depth of unexplained love
light will appear in disappearing clouds
we are the creator of our precious dreams
in the imaginary realm you will find me
sitting under an oak tree, penning words
giving you pieces of my heart, body and soul

Holding dreams, my heart is a place of love
desires of the soul, shine through the clouds
converse with me, let the wind carry our words

author's note:  I tried a Sestina for dVerse
sharing with . Poets United - Pantry 492
This was challenging and I hope I remained
true to the form.

If you are out there this one is for you!

  4. This is an enchantment of its own and the form renders it all the more compelling. It feels like waves of story cresting on the edges of eternity. :)

  5. I'm all warm grins and "I understand!" giggles. It's just wonderful when we find another who loves what we love, who knows what that love exists, who dreams with us in ways that need no explanation because we feel the same love. This poem speaks to me of what community should be.

  6. Dreams start it all and then the stories sure have their own life, souls touching each other like no other can and away the waves ripple out from there.

    1. Dreams are the gateway to the soul. Open that gate and who knows where it would lead.

  7. It is a wonderful thing, to experience a soaring love like that. And rare, on this plane, but perhaps less rare to poets. This is so beautiful. I flew with you, for a little while. Smiles.

  11. When I first started posting online, it was a surprise to find how much only words can convey -- disembodied yet somehow more present. And all of it true, at least in the saying. Well done.

    1. Brendan thanks words can convey a lot good and bad. They can also be magical opening doorways to new adventures and thoughts.

  12. I really love how you took the challenge, a sestina is not easy, yet I think you did the best in describing this love poem in a way that made me think of sea with waves...

    1. I think it is possible to live here and in some other parallel world. Who is to say it's not possible?

Thanks for visiting Mary, so nice to see you again :)

  14. Once again … a beautifully imaged, wonderfully rendered piece of writing. 'The road to happiness begins with a dream' … so true … and wise: if you cannot dream, it will not come to pass.

    1. Wendy, I agree without dreams we have nothing to move us forward. We become stagnant in life.

  15. Truedessa, this has got to be right at the top of my list of your favorites. The form worked so well for you in this touching love story. The first stanza, especially:

I freely gave the gift of love
we shared poetry, made love with words
we danced somewhere beyond the clouds

    Says so much. Brava!

  17. T.D, I really liked the way you linked together love experiences with writing, poems with priority and vice versa, writing with love. I'll try the form soon when it feels right.
I'm glad you knew I wrote the bird song tongue in cheek. Thanks for reading it an the literacy Day poem and for your nice comments.
