River of Unknowns

courtesy of Pixabay

Once upon a shamanic dream,
I saw and traveled a sky river
it took me to a sanctuary of splendor
luscious greenery with hints of pines
cherry trees and roses in full bloom
birdsong filled the air,  bees and butterflies
waltzed in the magic of wildflowers...

I thought how had I arrived in this paradise
and in my heart the sky river meant beauty

Now, when I hear the words sky river, I think
atmospheric cloudburst with torrential rains
opening its mouth, flooding the most vulnerable
regions, battering the landscape with mudslides
streets filling with water, people evacuating
their homes with precious few belongings
in search of a sanctuary...

I wonder if the sky river of my dreams
still exists or has the portal of time shifted
with prevailing winds.. . vanishing
in the eye of the storms

how do we sail or paddle these rivers
of increasing intensity...how do we find
our lost way home to paradise in a world
of layered unknowns..

do we build a community arc
to ride into the future...
pray for a miracle to see us through

author's note:  This is based in part on
one of my dreams. I have been watching
the news regarding the atmospheric storms
that have been hammering the west coast...

Wild Earth's Song

courtesy of Pixabay

Come gather under the full moon
I invite you to listen to earth's tune
a buffalo spirit sings in my hand
his song vibrates across the land

“Count your blessings each day”

A shaman’s dreams are lucid
evoking earth's inner music
the foundation of song and prayer
there is harmony flowing in the air

“Open your hearts receive the gifts

Let my humble drum lift you up
hear the howl of a lone wolf pup
a chorus of sparrows sing-a-long
cardinals duet across the lawn

“Listen to the wild earth’s songs”

Drift with me to the roaring waters
let us hear what melody spring offers
follow the drumbeat to the count of three
drift to the healing ballads of dolphins at sea

“Embrace buoyancy in your life”

Dream with me under a strawberry moon
on my sacred drum, I'll play you a tune
we'll set our untamed spirits free for today
listening to what the wild earth has to say

To Understand - You Must Become

The Sunday Muse

 To understand the earth
you must become a
part of her world
hearing, seeing, touching
smelling and speaking
the tongue of wonderment

Do you hear the sounds
of the earth pulsating
can you hear the symphony
of the rain-forest, roaring waves
the gentle songs of her creatures

Do you see the wonders of the
earth, her trees, mountains
waterfalls, deserts and meadows
the beauty of the smallest
animal to the largest
the grace of a rainbow

Do you feel the soil of the
earth, barefoot, digging deep
grit of the earth under your nails
planting new seeds of hope
reaching towards sunlight

Do you smell the scents
of the earth, flowers in
bloom, fresh rain, the
rich soil after the rain
the aroma of fresh cut grass

Do you speak the tongue
of the earth, the language
of nature, harmonizing with
the trees, flowers and bees
are you able to whistle
in birdsong

To understand the earth
you must embrace the
elements of her beauty
become a spiritual being
endlessly growing towards
the light

Are you able to tap
into the sixth sense
let intuition be your guide

may you always reach towards the light

Witnessing the Magnitude

Free illustrations of Rose

Sleeping on the cusp of a dream
shedding tears over a broken land
it's magnitude is yet to be seen
this darkness, I try to understand

Earth

shedding tears over a broken land
reading signs from all directions
this darkness, I try to understand
stars align, there is a connection

Wind

reading signs from all directions
May sky, offers a flowering moon
stars align, there is a connection
snapdragons and tulips in bloom

Fire

May sky, offers a flowering moon
heart of a rose, cries for healing
snapdragons and tulips in bloom
wounds of the earth are revealing

Air

heart of a rose , cries for healing
it's magnitude is yet to be seen
wounds of the earth are revealing
sleeping on the cusp of a dream

Songs of Shamans

 Shaman, Ritual, Drum, Symbol, Music

What then are the songs of the earth shamans

the womb of the earth beats with internal life

darkness flutters on the wings of the ravens

journey to the core, wild dreams take flight

how do we heal what has been wounded

suffering the pains of our own infliction

heaven cries , when dreams are uprooted

ancestors warned of possible extinction

what then are the songs of the earth shamans

mending ways to restoration and wholeness

messages on the caverns of interpretations

can emptiness lead us to the path of fullness

how do we heal what has been wounded

perhaps, scars are a reminder of initiation

walking mossy  trails, our eyes less clouded

broken hearts, raw poetry in transformation

what then are the songs of the earth shamans

does the drum draw you inward on a journey

releasing intentions and personal expectations

follow the beat , your inner dreams are worthy

Song of Love

I sing a hymn of summer love
for all the joys earth gives us
the sun shines from high above
your natural beauty, I can trust

Oh, sweet willow, please don't cry
your heart has grieved for too long
for you, I sing this soothing lullaby
in my heart beats a poet's song

precious gifts of sage and thyme
creating a world of wondrous rhyme

for living waters, I whisper praise
offering a drink of true reflection
resting near the river, in a lover's daze
I pen you verses of deep affection

majestic mountains links to heaven
standing firm, marveling at your beauty
mother earth forgive us our transgressions
sometimes we are foolish and a bit moody

precious gifts of sage and thyme
creating a world of wondrous rhyme

forests speak in an ancient tongue
communing with woodland creatures
in stillness sacred songs remain unsung
sonnets of love written in poetic meters

I sing a hymn of summer love
for all the joys earth gives us
the sun shines from high above
your natural beauty, I can trust

Author’s note:  A song
to welcome summer’s
warmth,  spring has
been difficult this
year.

A Cactus Blooms

Desert, Cactus, Flower, Succulent

Entering a small shop in another realm of time
sweet scents of sage and citrus filled the air
listening to harmonious wooden wind chimes
greeted by an elder with long flowing hair

Kites in the shape of wild birds flew nearby
Japanese paper lanterns illuminated the room
a breeze blew in , as if,  to lift them to the sky
candles burned with an intoxicating perfume

A guardian spoke  " what you seek is upstairs"
entering a room,  there was a mysterious spell
I caught three woman in a dream unaware
two were rattlesnakes, all was not well

I awoke, sitting in a wooden chair
before me an ancient shaman drummed
chanting in desolation a reverent prayer
hawk and eagle flew overhead to the hum

out in the desert of life, a cactus blooms
I began to speak in an ancient tongue
the mystery of life, I wished to consume
the veil grew thin, this dream was done
