Sunday Mini Challenge - Release Your Inner Wild Woman

"Inspire Howl Wing"
copyright ~ Ella of Ella's Edge

She Wolf...

Within the mysterious eyes of the wolf
lies a woman with ties to ancient days
her spirit runs wild a roaring river
thick coat keeps her warm in a storm

She dances at the edge of ancestor's fires
dreamers of dreams, awaken with hope
visionaries in an ever changing world
shape shifters move with ease in a breeze

Within the shadows of silver moonlight
wolf woman hovers within the trees
spirit entwined with  mystic powers
beware her black eyes, for they have seen

High above the mountain walls
scent of freedom blows in the wind
eerie howls echoing through chambers
heart of the wolf pounds to a water drum

Grey skies, under a full moon she cries
where is my land, where is my home
a place wild and free to roam
wishing to never journey alone

The beat of the wolf lives on...

Author's note: This picture spoke to me as I have a great respect for ancient cultures and I study dreams and dream works. I started writing this piece yesterday, the spirit  of the she wolf spoke to me in my dream last night. I hope you will feel her story.

Thank you for reading!

  1. I think it is important to remember those ancient ties. These lines resonated with me:

where is my land, where is my home
a place wild and free to roam

  2. Great flow and rhyme
    With your ancient rhyme
    Remembering the ways
    Of past days
    And bringing for the spirit
    That sure doesn`t fear it
Is sure the way to go
    Dream on at your show

  3. very neatly woven lines... I enjoyed it as a poetry... somehow I don't like the 'freeing the inner wild woman' in the form of a she wolf... lol...
    Cheers :)

  6. Oh my goodness, what a magnificent poem. As I read I realized I loved every line so much that if I picked out favorites I would be rewriting the entire poem. This was like a cool restorative drink in the desert, an affirmation, and a cry for freedom from the wolfish heart. It SPOKE to me. I love that you dreamed of the she wolf..... love the visionaries, wolf woman, shape shifters, and ties to the ancients. Favorite line has to be "her spirit runs wild, a roaring river." Sigh. What a glorious read this is. Thank you.

    1. Sherry,

I am so pleased that my poem spoke to you in such a deep manner. The words came easy once I saw the picture it seemed the wolf woman wanted her story told.

  11. Your poem is a perfect accompaniment to Ella's picture. To see the woman in the wolf, the wolf in the tree, and the tree in the whole...
    Beautifully done.

  12. Truedessa, thanks for your insightful comment on Jeff's song. My son - brilliant, a dreamer, a mystic, a poet and a musician and composer of classical music (self-taught) - was stricken with schizophrenia at seventeen. His has been a precarious journey through this world and his and my relationship grew exponentially through the depth of his suffering and my determination not to let him go......so you sense very accurately. He has always been tethered lightly to the earth and he has told me the fact he is still here is because of me. I had to learn to "Be a Tree" to stay steady for him. Thanks for caring.
